Gran Turismo Sport Is Getting a Beta After All - IGN

Polyphony Digital president Kazunori Yamauchi has today confirmed a closed beta for Gran Turismo Sport will begin next week. Yamauchi discussed the news in a new post on the official Gran Turismo site.

The “initial phase” of the closed beta, which begins on March 17, will only be open to selected US PSN IDs. Those in North America interested in registering for a chance to join the beta can do so here.

Yamauchi explains participants will be able to choose from a curated rotation of cars and tracks each day to race online against others during the beta periods. He also notes this will be our first opportunity to see how GT Sport’s new Sportsmanship Rating and Driver Rating will work in-game.

While Polyphony has decided to roll the beta out across the US first, “phase two” of the beta will include fans who have registered their interest via PlayStation Europe’s entry form. Australian players can sign up via PlayStation Europe.

Yamauchi stresses that players who miss out on this beta should “stay tuned for future beta activities in the run-up to launch.”

Gran Turismo Sport was initially scheduled to get a beta early last year but it was shelved in May, 2016 during the lead-up to game’s planned release in November. Shortly afterwards GT Sport was delayed to an undetermined date in 2017.
