ELKHART
Museum to host traveling Anne Frank exhibit
In conjunction with the Elkhart Community Schools and Premier Arts, the Midwest Museum of American Art will host the final days of the informational display entitled “Anne Frank: A History for Today.” This specially designed traveling exhibit tells the powerful story of a young girl in hiding from the Nazis during World War II through photographs, letters, and of course Anne’s own diary.
Through this special partnership with the Anne Frank House, Amsterdam, the “Anne Frank: A History for Today” exhibit has been made available to the Elkhart Community Schools, Premier Arts Inc., and MMAA through Feb. 16. Premier Arts will host Holocaust survivor Eva Kor at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 23 inside the Lerner Theatre, 410 S. Main St.
Kor is a survivor of the Holocaust who, with her twin sister Miriam, was subjected to human experimentation under Dr. Josef Mengele at Auschwitz. Both of her parents and two older sisters were killed at the camp; only she and Miriam survived. In 1984, Kor founded the organization CANDLES (Children of Auschwitz Nazi Deadly Lab Experiments Survivors), through which she located 122 other living “Mengele twins,” as the experiment survivors came to be known. Hear her story and see the exhibit during this special time of remembrance.
The Midwest Museum of American Art is open Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, and $4 for those 5 years old through college students. Family admission (three or more individuals) is $10. Every Sunday is Free Family Day.
